RING STYLES

Engagement, Cocktail, and other Custom Rings Continued

The first two rings are examples of engagement ring/wedding band combination rings, in which the solitaire stone is integral to the ring design but the ring is still essentially a wedding band.

The design for these rings was developed from a sketch by the groom, who is an artist. The diamond, approximately 40 points (100 points to a carat) came from his Grandmother's ring.

Our customers requested a band ot textured gold to be flush soldered to the side of the ring, actually around 3/4 of the band of the ring. In addition to this two letters, one a rune, and one a Hebrew letter, were cut from 14 kt gold and soldered next to the setting.

The setting itself is a combination of gold and silver disks. This and the other rings on this and almost all the rings on the remainder of pages of the rings section are technically some of the most sophisticated work I've done. The customer also wanted the diamond flush set within the disk. Rings this complex run $750 each, without the stone.

Rune and Hebrew Letter Tanzanite Wedding Band, Offset Left Front Vew

Here is the bride's ring. This view shows the rune. The bride provided the tanzanite, which was a fine stone. Tanzanite is quite delicate so the setting was made to avoid putting too much pressure on the stone. Like the groom's ring the stone is flush set into the rectangular gold and silver box mounting.

This side shows the Hebrew letter, Tzaddi. The letter, the top and bottom and inside of the band are all high shine, the rest of the ring textured with a series of tools.

Here's the front view. The rings were spectacular and our customers extremely pleased.

This is the back of the ring. The groom's ring is identical except for the shape of the stone mounting. Again, a ring this complex would run $750 without the stone.

A popular design method for setting a central stone is to create a platform into which the stone is set. Soldered to a band this is an elegant solution to a design problem.

Eagle and Ruby Engagement Ring

This ring features a high quality oval faceted ruby in a gold setting in the center of a double headed silver eagle mounted onto a gold background. It also features a silver crescent moon with a 3 mm cabachon aquamarine on each side and the alchemical symbols for the four elements in silver soldered to the gold band,

This ring was a special order. Rings similar to this in karat gold and sterling silver would run $1400 and up depending on the size of the ruby.

On each side of the ring two snakes intertwine below a moon in the center of which is set a natural 4 mm diameter cabochon ruby.

This view gives you an idea of how the ring was made, cut from gold sheet, rounded, with the platform of hexagram, lotus, and setting for star ruby soldered to the top of the ring. This, in fact, was the method used for rings in the early twentieth century, before signet rings became popular. A ring similar to this, if we were able to find a star ruby, would probably cost $2000 or more.

The following ring, the Storm ring, was a special order that used the gold symbols on silver band technique of many of our wedding bands and the platform technique of many the rings on this page. We also use this ring to show the design process, from initial design to finished image. Go here to see the original web page and designs I sent to the customer who ordered this. Use you back button or browser history to return to this page since you will be directed to another of my sites. Please note that gold is almost three times the price it was when I made this ring and any quote for a similar type of ring would be higher.

This ring derived from a sigil sent in by a customer who requested a ring that harnessed the power of the weather. The design cut out of gold on the front platform of the ring was no doubt something to do with this. The stone is a lapis lazuli.

He also requested a sun with crescent and a piscean cross. He wanted letters and numbers stamped and oxidized on the inside back.

Here's a view of the textured back of the platform of the ring, which, as you can see, is slightly flattened below the platform to increase stability. On the back is a tornado and a sun/moon symbol.

The following two rings, the enlargements for which I'm still trying to find, were developed for the same cstomer.

Chaos Skull and Runes Ring, Front View

One of my favorite customers and a long term net friend orders some of the most spectacular jewelry from me. He provides a design, which I modify for jewelry, then execute the ring. This ring has a skull with two ruby eyes on top of a chaosphere on top of an oxidized circle soldered to a wide band.

On the band I stamped three rows of runes. My friend is a runemaster in Austria. Rings as complex as this run $500 and up. If you'd like to see the original design and more information about this ring, click here.

Lord Of the Rings (Demon Ring), Front View

My Austrian runemaster friend wanted a ring, that if not the One Ring, might at least have been the One Ring after the Lord of the Nazgul or Sauron himself had worn it for a while. The central stone is a black star sapphire.

Lord of the Rings, Elvish Lettering, Back of Ring Lord of the Rings, Elvish Lettering, Back of Ring

Here's the back view, with the elvish writing any fan of Tolkein knows so well.

Lord of the Rings Top Down View Lord of the Rings Top Down View

This is a top down view of the ring. I particularly wanted the rim of the ring to look like tendrils of gold or branches perhaps, surrounding the letters. A ring similar to this would un $1000 and up.

Elf Ring with Ruby Elf Ring with Ruby

Maintaining the Middle Earth theme, here's a ring where the customer who ordered this ring sent in a photoshopped image of the way she wanted the gold and the silver to form around each other. The central stone is a ruby.

Elf Ring with Ruby, Side View Elf Ring with Ruby, Side View

Our customer wanted a ring that had the feeling tone of the Elves of Middle Earth. Not having any mithral handy, silver and gold was a good second best. This type of ring would cost $500 and up, depending on the stone.

Finally for this section here are 3 more somewhat simpler Engagement style rings.

Moon and Moonstone Ring

Moon and Moonstone Ring

This elegant ring contains a blue monstne set into crscent moon mounted on an argentium sterling band.

A ring like this would cost $225 and up depending on the size of the stone.

Snake Ring with Emerald

Snake Ring with Emerald

This is a ring I made years ago for Pam, who loves emeralds. She still wears it frequently. A ring like this would run $300 plus the cost of the stone and the size of the ring.

Green Garnet and Silver Ring

Green garnets only recently became widely available. The image doesn't do justice to the color, which is an amazing green. The stones are relatively expensive, especially compared with ordinary almandine or rhodolite red garnets. This simple ring, which wouldn't cost much more in 14kt gold, runs $175 in sterling silver.

Signet rings are featured in the next section.
